Join the Best Volunteer Programs in India

India is a country rich in culture and history. However, poverty and underdevelopment of some sections of the society have acted as the harsh realities in our society. Thus, for us, as members of this society, it becomes our responsibility to take a step ahead through volunteering and work towards the welfare of the underprivileged sections of the society.

Voluntarism includes all the activities performed by individuals freely or at reduced costs, thus benefitting people in dire need of help. It has become a way to keep the humanity alive. Factors motivating volunteers could be many ranging from religious, humanitarian, personal etc. but whatever the motivations are, it all results in being beneficial to the whole society.

There are numerous volunteering organizations who are eager to uplift the poor and the underprivileged and support them in whatever way they can. Lakshyam is one such non-profit organization that is keen to welcome enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.

Lakshyam was founded in year 2012 by a young social entrepreneur, Ms. Raashi Anand who further brought group together to work for the betterment of the society. Lakshyam aims to work for the political, economical and socially marginalized communities for their holistic advancement and implement effective and relicable models for community development. Lakshyam today, is spread across 19 centres in India and has impacted 20 states. It has further touched over 30,000 lives and directly benefitted them.

Lakshyam offers a volunteering program where the volunteers can work at centres spread across 5 locations across India. The volunteers are offered a choice from a wide range of tasks- media and communications, performing arts, academics, indoor and outdoor sports, data management and research, administrative work and business development, social entrepreneurship and building and construction. These diverse programmes provide the volunteers to contribute in whatever way they can as their passion and dedication can bring a positive change in the society.

Lakshyam provide the volunteers with programs like Butterfly which is basically a child welfare program. Through this, Lakshyam promotes the human right i.e. basic education of every individual. The volunteers through this program can teach subjects such as Hindi, English and Mathematics as well as positive healthy habits of cleanliness, hygiene and discipline to the children involved in various professions like rag picking, begging etc.

Another major initiative taken by Lakshyam is Lakshyam Toy Library which provides the underprivileged children what they are lacking- innocence and essence of childhood. Various toy libraries have been set up across India in a short span of time. Here, the volunteers can read the storybooks to the children and make them learn new things in a playful manner.

Rooh - Awakening women’s soul is also an initiative to erode all the misconceptions and presumptions associated with women. This initiative helps to bring forth a woman who is strong and independent. Here, the women are provided with professional and vocational skills. Volunteers also engage in enhancing the knowledge of women with regards to sanitation and menstrual hygiene. Health awareness campaigns are also organized for women in association with numerous partners. One such collaboration was with ENACTUS Shyam Lal College where the students visited the Lakshyam centres to distribute sanitary pads among the women and spread awareness about menstrual hygiene.

Hence, Lakshyam among the various other voluntary organization appeals everyone to make this place a better place to live by engaging in the volunteering program and ‘do good’ for the society.

Volunteer programs/organizations in India

Despite many development efforts made by the Indian government in recent decades, the social imbalance is increasing immeasurably and the Indian economy is struggling to solve the many socio-economic problems related to its demography. The people are struggling to access to equal rights and living conditions and the orphanages fill up. Many associations and organizations participate in humanitarian action with the means at their disposal. Whether in donations of medical equipment or in funding for humanitarian projects, international and local institutions accompany and initiate humanitarian missions in economically weak areas, orphanages and areas of tension within the country.

It is in this sense, and to address the needs of the poorest, on a daily basis, that volunteering initiatives have, over the years, tremendously diversified. With programs as varied as the personal development and schooling of children, the care of young people in difficulty, the rehabilitation of handicapped persons, the empowerment of women and their independency, the preservation of human rights, the access to healthcare, infrastructures etc.; the opportunities to aid the deprived are numerous. While you’re in India, connecting with a volunteering organization and making a contribution towards the betterment of society turns out to be an enlightening experience. The best way of choosing such an organisation is when it can specifically benefit from your abilities and skills while providing you with an enriching experience.

While volunteering opportunities and non-governmental organizations multiply across the Indian subcontinent, NGO Lakshyam aims to give a deep and complete experiences to those willing to give assistance to the underprivileged. Founded in 2012, Lakshyam contributes towards betterment of the society with a focus on child education, holistic child development and women empowerment. The association shares a common dream – a world where every child is showered with love and is given opportunities for a brighter future; a world where no child’s innocence is marred by the horrors of child labour, and a world where women’s well-being is paid attention to and empowerment representing the way to sustain themselves and their families.

In the light of the organization’s values, the proposed volunteering missions seek to give a responsible and useful field of action to the candidates. Spread across 5 locations in India and impacting 16 states, Lakshyam actively operates on a national scale and its projects extensively address the humanitarian condition that benefits the communities in need. Through its centres based in the middle of the rural and economically weak areas, the organization offers a wide range of tasks from which the volunteers can chose to work on during their involvement. The real-life experience and interaction with the people play a major role for the volunteers and the community as it is the key for a mutually beneficial experience.

In this way, the volunteering missions mostly emphasize on fostering the children’s and women’s self-development as well as their educational skills. From comprehensive learning methods through languages, maths and computer operations, to physical activities such as sports and leisure activities, the young people integrate basic but necessary knowledge while developing a feeling of responsibility. Living in a society requires basic social and personal skills which Lakshyam tries to confer to those who need it the most. Artistic workshops and manual skills are also being provided as the enhancement of creativity broadens the children’s patterns of thinking and thus, their potential. Moreover, volunteers in Lakshyam are given the opportunity to contribute to the internal and external development of the organization through media & communications, business model development or even the data and research field. Finally, in order to improve the communities’ conditions and the social benefits of this humanitarian association, volunteers may be active in the frame of the social entrepreneurship field where every innovation is supported and accompanied.

It is by daring to leave our comfort zone that we make the most memorable experiences of our life.

Women and Child Development: Making World a Better Place

Introduction

Women and child development has become the buzzword today with women working alongside men in all spheres and children are expected to get influence by their environment at different age level.  Women development can be defined as a process leading to enhancing women’s control over financial, human and intellectual resources. In any nation, women development can be assessed by their involvement in social, economic and social fields. Similarly, child’s development is the process of growth of child from dependency to increase independency. It is important that parents take every step necessary to ensure that their children grow up in environment where their social, emotional and educational needs are met.

Issue

As is a widely known fact, the condition of women in India as well as the rest of the world personifies pitiful. We have a high rate of female feticide and at the same time the discrimination against girls in India has been going on since ages now. Even today, there are several sections of the Indian society where the girl child is treated as a burden. Leaving behind the educational and medical front, girls in India lag far behind in receiving affection as well. Also, being the second most populated country, India has a large number of youths crowning its resources. However, this resource is misused one as well.

There are various problems faced by women and children together – Undernourishment which means lack of sufficient calories in food leading to weakness, lower work efficiency etc., Malnutrition which means lack of sufficient ingredients such as vitamins, proteins etc. in the food leading to illness, less weight of child at birth, high rate of child mortality etc., Limited Education as the number of school going children is still far from satisfactory.

Development Programs by Government and NGO

For the social and economic development of women and children, Government and certain NGOs have launched various schemes and programs such as:

1.    Support To Training-Cum-Employment Programme (STEP):

The women are given training in sectors like agriculture, dairying, village and small industries.

2.    Swa-Shakti Project:

Swa-Shakti aims at increasing women’s access to resources for better quality of life by providing health and education services and imparting skills to women for income generating activities.

3.    National Commission for Women:

National Commission for Women protects constitutional and legal rights of women, recommends remedial measures, facilitates redressal of grievances and advises the Government on all matters affecting the welfare and development of women.

This is one of the programs initiated by LAKSHYAM NGO in New Delhi. Lakshyam’s program, ‘Rooh-Awakening Women Soul’, meaning the spirit, aims at strengthening women demeanor towards life itself. The program’s first step is to provide remedial education to children; second step is to provide an essential degree of exposure along with professional training and third is to equip the girls with popular platform to sell their skills. This program also targets developments in ways of financial issues by organizing various workshops that enable poor women to self- generate employment.  Health awareness campaigns are organized every now and then.

5.    Butterfly – Child Welfare Program:

Lakshyam NGO launched a similar program for children welfare named “Butterfly – Child Welfare and Education” that symbolizes freedom with wings of butterfly. This programs aims at imparting holistic education and well-round development and abolishing the term “underprivileged”. Students at Lakshyam are taught Hindi, Mathematics, English and Computer Sciences. It provides free of cost tutorials as well.
